Fire Extinguisher Maintenance in Glasgow Scotland

Fire Extinguisher Inspection, Maintenance, Servicing and Supply

Fire Extinguishers do not have an indefinite life, even if they are never actually used. Their contents can lose pressure, the inside of the canisters are prone to rust and corrosion by liquid contents, and the canister seams can be weakened by continual high pressurization. Seals can deteriorate, valves can stick, and Fire Extinguishers can become damaged, knocked and subsequently dented simply by being part of a building’s fixtures and fittings.

Fire extinguisher Maintenance, Servicing and care in accordance with the Code of Practice stipulated in British Standard 5306 part 3 should be integrated into your premises Fire Risk Assessment and is, in effect, a legal requirement of the Fire Scotland Act 2005.

Yearly Fire Extinguisher Inspections & Maintenance (or more frequent for high risk locations or corrosive environments) by a competent person will involve inspecting every Fire Extinguisher, and identifying those extinguishers which need re-pressurising, require replacement parts, or which have reached the end of their useful lives. This is a vital part of your fire extinguisher cover and is required by the Fire Scotland Act 2005. We cover Glasgow, Edinburgh, West Central and Northern Scotland.

Your Fire Extinguishers will need to be Inspected and serviced yearly by a competent person to ensure their reliability in an emergency. Cogent engineers are BAFE examined and qualified to BS 5306, in the commissioning and maintenance of portable fire extinguishers (Certificate No. 002800).

We are now providing Firexo Extinguishers which is the first extinguisher on the market that is fully BS EN3 accredited to tackle all 6 major classes of fire in one unit. The extinguishing medium is eco-friendly, biodegradable, PH neutral and non-toxic so we are hopefully looking at a really progressive and innovative cover all solution here.  Essentially it’s an extinguisher which covers all hazards (long overdue in my opinion) with a higher fire rating which in essence it means that you require fewer appliances in the workplace to satisfy the requirements. The CSR benefits as well as the ability to potentially reduce the number of units on site for a customer makes it a really easy win all round.  The extinguishers are maintained to BS-5306 so no change there. Annual maintenance is required as well as a 5 year discharge.
